The Monetary Jurisdiction of Civil Courts of Bangladesh
To reduce the sufferings of the litigants in civil suits as well as to adjust with the expansion of currency it was needed to increase the pecuniary jurisdiction of the civil courts of Bangladesh.
That's why Bangladesh Parliament on 12 May 2016, passed the “Civil Courts (Amendment) Act, 2016” which will amend The Civil Courts Act, 1887. (The Act of 1887). It will expand the monetary jurisdiction of the judges of lower courts .
The amendments to the Civil Courts Act 1887 (Act of 1887) through Civil Courts (Amendment) Act 2016 (Act of 2016)is as follows:
Section 2 of the Act of 2016 has amended section 19 of the Act of 1887.
According to that amendment, district judges will try civil cases with suit value of Tk. 5 crores instead of existing Tk. 5 lakhs. Assistant Judges will try civil cases with suit value of Tk. 15 lakhs instead of Tk. 2 lakhs and Senior Assistant Judges Tk. 25 lakhs instead of Tk. 4 lakhs.
According to that amendment, the pecuniary jurisdiction of civil courts of Bangladesh:

But amendment is suspended by the Supreme Court. So the previous jurisdiction is continuing now.
