(পদান্বয়ী অব্যয়)

Preposition শব্দিটি ভাঙলে আমরা  দুটি অংশ পাই যথা pre এবং position.  pre অর্থ পূর্বে আর position অর্থ অবস্থান অর্থাৎ Preposition অর্থ পূর্বে অবস্থান। এখন প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে কার পূর্বে অবস্থান ? হাঁ Preposition শব্দটি Noun বা Pronoun এর পূর্বে অবস্থান করবে। তাহলে Preposition কাকে বলে ? 

সংজ্ঞা:
একটি Sentence (বাক্য) এর মধ্যে যে Word (শব্দ) টি Noun বা Pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে  Sentence এর অন্য শব্দের সাথে এর সম্পর্ক বুঝায় তাকে Preposition বলে । Preposition একটি Sentence গঠনে সহায়তা করে ।

Definition: 
A preposition is a word placed or positioned before a noun or a pronoun or noun equivalent to show the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence. Preposition helps to construct a sentence.

Preposition ব্যবহারের সহজ নিয়ম :

1. At
সময়ের পূর্বে এত বসে। যেমনঃ 
He wakes up at 6 am.

ছোট স্থানের পূর্বে at বসে । যেমনঃ
He lives at Gulshan.

2. in (মধ্যে)
বড় স্থানের পূর্বে in বসে । যেমনঃ
He lives in Dhaka. 

মাস বা বছরের পূর্বে in বসে । যেমনঃ   
I shall meet you in February.
He returned home in 2017

কোনো কিছুর ভিতরে অবস্থিত বা স্থিতিশীলতা বুঝলে in বসে। যেমনঃ
He is in the room. 

ভবিষ্যৎ কালের ব্যাপক সময় (period of time) বুঝতে in বসে। যেমনঃ
We shall finish the work in a month. 

3. into
কোনো কিছুর ভিতরে প্রবেশ বা গতিশীলতা বুঝলে into বসে। যেমনঃ  
He entered into the room.

4. After
অতীত কালের ব্যাপক সময় (period of time) বুঝতে after বসে। যেমনঃ 
He returned to school after one month.


5. On (উপরে)
দিন বা তারিখের পূর্বে on বসে । যেমনঃ   
I shall meet you on Monday.
I shall meet you on 5 January.

কোনো কিছুর উপরে লেগে থাকলে on বসে। যেমনঃ 
The book is on the table.

6. Over (উপরে)  
কোনো কিছুর উপরে লেগে না থেকে কিছু ফাঁকা থাকলে over বসে। যেমনঃ
The bird flew over my head.

7. Above (উপরে)  







যে শব্দগুলো সাধারণত Preposition হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে থাকে:

aboard (জাহাজ, বিমান বা নৌকা প্রভৃতির উপরে)
about (সম্মন্ধে)

Preposition এর প্রকারভেদঃ
Prepositions সাধারণত চার ধরণের হয়ে থাকে। যথা:
Prepositions are of four different kinds. Such as:


1. Simple Preposition:
    such, as, in, at, by, of, for, on, over, under, up, to, from, out, about, under, with etc.
-   He goes to market.
-  The cat is on the table. 
-  Monir is about ten.
- They are coming from abroad.

2. Double Preposition:
    such as, into, onto, within, without, from, among, toward, behind etc. - He will return within two weeks.
- A player can not play without others.
- He is different among the boys.

3. Compound or Phrasal or Complex Prepositions: These types of prepositions are made of two or more words. Such as:
instead of (পরিবর্তে), 
in front of (সামনে)
in between (দুই জনের মধ্যে)
out of (মধ্যে)
on behalf of (পক্ষে)
in place of (স্থানে)
except for
throughout
underneath
on account of
according to (অনুসারে) etc.  
- Monir is signing on behalf of his owner.
- Sumon is playing in place of Limon.
- We carried on our works. 
- In spite of bad weather we reached the school. 
- I achieved CGPA 3.47 out of 4.00
 
4. Participial Preposition: Verb এর Present বা Past Participle form Preposition হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। যেমনঃ 
concerning
considering
pending
regarding etc.

The specific area to use prepositions.
1. Prepositions of Place, Position and Direction (in, at, on, by, next, to, beside, )
In          - In the room.
At          - At the window. At the office
On         - On the table.
By         - Sitting by the woman.
Above   - Above the sky.
To          - Go to university.
Towards - Towards east.
From      - Fled from home.
Into        - Jumped into the well.

2. Prepositions of time

At              - At 10 a.m., at dawn, at noon, at night, at an early age. 
After         -After 3 O’clock, after his arrival.
Before       - Before the 15th July. 
By              - By 4 p.m.
During       - During five years. During the whole day/summer, during five years. 
From         - From 1st January. 
For             - For a week/month. 
In                - In June, in 2010, in the morning/evening/afternoon.
On               - On Sunday. 
Since           - Since he comes.
Within         - Within three days.
throughout  - Throughout the year.

3. Prepositions of Reason or Purpose
For            - For the good of the people, died for the country.
Form         - Died from fatigue, suffering from fever/cold.
Of              - Died of cancer.
Through   - Lost his pen through negligence
With         - Trembles with fear shivers with fever.
